“Midwifery is an amazing career that allows me to participate in miracles daily. I am honored to be part of those stories and I love helping navigate clients through their experience and transition into motherhood. Many think midwifery targets pregnancy and birth, but a big part of my career is caring for women throughout their lifespan and I enjoy the continuity of care that is possible.”
After 16 years as a Certified Nurse Midwife, Meghan Madea, MSN, CNM, WHNP-BC hasn’t lost sight of her mantra: “Pregnancy is not an illness, and birth should not be a procedure.”
That’s true wherever her career takes her. “I’ve worked overseas in settings where ultrasounds were not routinely performed. One of my most memorable experiences was delivering ‘surprise’ full-term twins. Both mom and I were shocked! I also really enjoy return clients, where I am able to deliver siblings. Outside of obstetrics, preventative health is important for all women. My goal is to educate and empower women to seek regular care and prevent illness through routine recommended visits. I know I’m doing well when a client who saw me throughout her pregnancy continues to return to my clinic for annual examinations afterwards.”
Meghan loves putting the midwifery model of care into action by empowering clients through education and communication; serving as their health care partner rather than a facilitator. Along with her passion for her career, she enjoys spending time with her husband and three daughters as well as a diverse range of hobbies.
“I am their biggest cheerleader at volleyball, basketball and softball games, and we enjoy biking, running and even rock climbing,” she said. “I love healthy cooking, international foods, live music and theatre. A favorite past-time is poking around antique shops. I enjoy doing puzzles, crossword puzzles and knitting. I have lived around the world and I look forward to being able to show my girls the many places I have been and to find more neat destinations together.”
