Good nurse recruitment is the foundation of success for any health care organization. It’s a message Lisa Cox Schafer, executive vice president/chief operating officer and chief nursing officer at Regional One Health, shared about the health care industry in the current issue of Inside Memphis Business.
Regional One Health’s nurse recruitment effort has added 100 new positions in recent months. It’s part of a multi-prong approach to enhance the patient experience and safety. The additions across the health system better support Regional One Health’s nurses to continue to provide exceptional care and premier service.
“Transforming and sustaining a culture and model to support nursing education and nurse-patient ratios are integral for us to provide the highest standard of care,” Schafer wrote in the Industry Perspectives piece for Inside Memphis Business. “It all starts with recruiting, developing and retaining the best nurses, whether it’s veterans who have been on the front lines of health care for decades or those new to the profession.”
There are 2.7 million registered nurses employed in the U.S., a profession the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects will see 26 percent growth this decade. And Regional One Health’s leadership believes a strong group of A-team nurses is vital to the system’s mission to provide care to some of the community’s highest-risk patients with a commitment to provide compassionate and exceptional care.
