- A responsible adult must be available to drive you home or accompany you if you plan to use a transportation service following your surgical procedure and post-operative recovery.
- You will rest in our recovering room under the care of specially trained nurses from one to three hours. You may be sleepy or dizzy after your surgery.
- An anesthesia professional will monitor your recovery while in the recovery room.
- Nurses and physicians will answer your questions and provide you with detailed instructions. You will receive a written copy of these instructions. Please follow them carefully.
- Have someone plan to stay at home with you through the night.
- Refrain from making important decisions and driving or operating machinery for 24 hours after your surgery.
- After anesthesia, patients may experience minor effects such as drowsiness, muscle aches, a sore throat, headaches, dizziness, or nausea. These side effects decline rapidly in the hours following surgery, but may take several days before they are gone completely.
- Plan to take it easy until your doctor has instructed you to resume normal activity. Many patients do not feel up to their typical physical activities the next day. Contact your doctor if you have questions about what you can and cannot do, when you can return to work, and how active you can be.
- Should you require immediate treatment for a problem following your surgery, please contact your physician’s office. In an emergency, please call 911.
