If you or a loved one is living with a serious illness, an interdisciplinary team of palliative care specialists is available to provide relief from the symptoms and stress related to that condition. Regional One Health Palliative Care offers patients with complex medical needs care that focuses on the whole person. We are dedicated to understanding your needs and wishes, providing calm in the midst of confusion, and helping you improve your quality of life.
Palliative care is a medical specialty that is delivered alongside curative treatment and in close collaboration with a patient’s treating clinician. It is designed for patients of all ages and at all stages of a serious illness or condition.
As the level-1 trauma center and certified burn center for the Mid-South region, Regional One Health cares for the most seriously injured patients. After a life-changing traumatic event, the additional support our team provides can promote healing and overall wellbeing. Palliative care is also important for people living with serious illnesses. Patients with stage 3 or 4 cancer; late-stage heart, lung and kidney disease; or functional decline related to aging or chronic health conditions are among the many who can benefit from palliative care.

Meet Our Medical Director
For Jeffrey Nelson, MD, palliative care is an opportunity to help patients and families navigate one of the most challenging times of their life. As medical director for Regional One Health’s Palliative Care Service, Dr. Nelson leads a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses and social workers who take a whole-person approach to improving quality of life and alleviating suffering during a serious medical crisis.
They see patients of all ages and with a variety of conditions, and support families by providing a consistent point of contact and acting as a liaison to their medical team. “At its core, palliative care is about supporting patients and families by sharing the human experience of serious illness,” he said. “Palliative care is about how you live – not how you die.” Click here to read his full bio.
