Traumatic Brain Injury Services
Regional One Health exercises a grant received by the Tennessee Department of Health: Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Program with the purpose of providing services for children and adults with a traumatic brain injury; providing information; making referrals to services and agencies; assisting consumers in applying for and accessing services; advocacy; support group development; and the development of new programs and activities. More than one thousand TBI survivors and their loved ones have participated in support group events hosted by Traumatic Brain Injury Services.
Traumatic Brain Injury Services addresses the emotional, behavioral, cognitive, physical and psycho-social aspects of treatment. A comprehensive treatment plan, catering to each person’s unique needs, is developed in collaboration with the person with a brain injury, his or her family members and the treatment team. The goals are to build skills and help the individual prepare for the future. Whether that means returning to school, work, the family home, a care facility, or another setting, the aim is to help the individual enjoy the highest possible quality of life.
Traumatic Brain Injury Services works with individuals of all ages, and referrals to this free service can be made by the brain injury survivor, a family member or caregiver, rehabilitation facility, or any other affiliated professional in the community. As an added benefit of all the outstanding services offered, Traumatic Brain Injury Services will provide a Brain Injury Survivor I.D. Card to individuals with TBI. TBI survivors may request this I.D. card free of charge and it is a beneficial safeguard in case of an emergency. To request a complimentary card, contact Asia Burks at [email protected] or 901-545-8487.
Rx for Change
Rx for Change, Regional One Health’s Hospital Violence Intervention Program (HVIP), was started in August of 2013 in collaboration with Mayor A.C. Wharton’s “Memphis Gun Down.”
Staff Interventionists engage with patients between the ages of 14-40 who live in the Memphis/Shelby County area who present to the Elvis Presley Trauma Center as a result of gun-shot wound (GSW), knife stab wound (KSW) and assaults .
The purpose of Rx for Change is to “intervene and offer support and guidance to victims of violence” by connecting clients with community resource partners which may 1) reduce retaliation levels, 2) allow clients to achieve personal goals, and 3) reduce recidivism rates.
Learn more about the program in a recent news story here.
Violence is a preventable healthcare issue. For further information and opportunities in regards to the Hospital Violence Intervention Program please call 901-515-HVIP or email [email protected].
STOP THE BLEED®
With 3 quick actions, you can be trained to save a life. The number 1 cause of preventable death after injury is bleeding. That’s why we want to train you how to STOP THE BLEED. Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes. That’s why bleeding control—keeping the blood inside the body—is the purpose of STOP THE BLEED training. Most STOP THE BLEED courses last no more than 90 minutes. A formal presentation is followed by hands-on practice of applying direct pressure, packing a wound, and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding. Instead of being a witness, you can become an immediate responder because you know how to STOP THE BLEED®.

Be SMART
Every year in the United States, 350 children aged 17 and under gain access to a firearm and unintentionally shoot themselves or someone else. More than 700 more die by suicide with a gun each year. Everytown for Gun Safety launched the Be SMART campaign to take action to promote responsible gun ownership and reduce child gun deaths. The campaign focuses on education and awareness about child gun deaths and secure gun storage. Email [email protected] to request a presentation.
