Thomas Hussey: Regional One Health Foundation Board Of Directors Chairman
Thomas Hussey joined Regional One Health Foundation’s, formerly MED Foundation’s, Board of Directors nearly four years ago because he not only wanted to be part of an organization that does such good for so many people, but also because he personally wanted to do what he could to assist in making a difference.
Hussey is a principal/partner for Diversified Trust, an employee-owned wealth management firm based in the Southeast with offices in Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta and Greensboro, North Carolina. He is involved in the coordination and execution of the firm’s private equity fund strategies and brought his financial expertise to his post as treasurer of the Foundation’s Board of Directors until he was recently voted Chairman in January 2014.
“I am honored to be a part of this board. To be involved with an organization that has such an impact on the city of Memphis and provides our region with such quality medical care is humbling,” Hussey said. “I volunteer my efforts in order to assist the Foundation in continuing its mission of raising funds for special projects such as state-of-the-art equipment and training. But I find I get as much as I give, if not more. It is so rewarding knowing that the work our board does goes to help those in need right here in our community.”
Hussey says the biggest accomplishment the board has achieved during his tenure is the creation and development of Regional One Health Foundation’s largest annual fundraising event, MED Night: A Soul Celebration. Held annually, the black-tie optional affair offers a stellar line-up of musical guests, as well as a dinner, a live auction and more.
When asked what role he played in the 2010 installation of Dr. Reginald Coopwood as president and CEO of Regional Medical Center, Hussey shakes his head; “I would take credit if I could, but I can’t. Dr. Coopwood’s example of leadership is unsurpassed. This hospital system and our entire city are fortunate to have him in their service. He has truly transformed Regional Medical Center and the community’s perception surrounding it. Those of us who serve on the board know first-hand that Regional One Health not only has the number one trauma center in the Mid-South region, but also a leading healthcare system; and under Dr. Coopwood’s leadership, other people across the region and nationally are starting to take notice.”
Hussey is a lifelong Memphian and a graduate of Memphis University School. He received his bachelor’s of science in economics from the University of Vermont and his master’s of business from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management. In addition to his involvement on Regional One Health Foundation’s Board of Directors, he also serves on the boards of The Dixon Gallery and Gardens and The Alliance for Nonprofit Excellence.
